It was revealed in a press event on Monday that the upcoming 2019 Doraemon film will be titled Eiga Doraemon no Nobita no Getsumen Tansaki (Doraemon the Movie: Chronicle of the Moon Exploration). The movie will be the franchise’s 39th film and slated to be released in Japan theaters on March 1.
A special video was also released containing more important details of the film. The theme song is titled “The Gift” and will be performed by Dai Hirai.
The Doraemon main cast is confirmed to reprise their roles for the film with an addition of cast that will include Alice Hirose as Luna, Sōichi Nakaoka as Cancer, Shigeo Takahashi as Crab, Yuuya Yagira as Goddard, and Kōtarō Yoshida as Diabolo.
The 2019 film will be directed by Shinnosuke Yakuwa while Naoki Prize-winning myster author Midzuki Tsujimura is confirmed to work with the script. Yakuwa was the director for the previous Doraemon films Doraemon the Movie: Nobita in the New Haunts of Evil – Peko and the Five Explore and Doraemon the Movie: Nobita and the Birth of Japan.
The 38th Doraemon film titled Eiga Doraemon: Nobita no Takarajima (Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Treasure Island) is the highest-grossing anime film of the franchise so far earning more than 4.88 billion yen with more than 4,282,000 tickets sold as April 8.
