Synopsis
In this world, magic users are known as “Periods” and are the ones who defeat the monsters summoned from isolation, “Spirals.” Featured in this tale is 14-year-old apprentice Period Haru. Haru is a part of the Eighth Arc-end Division and has been called to break the cycle and cast himself into the endless battle.
After returning from a break, however, Haru learns that his division has entered into bankruptcy due to a mysterious theft of their vault. In result of this, many members of the division had left and now it is up to Haru and his comrades to rebuild the branch by taking on multiple quests.
The Good
Whenever it comes to anime that has a game basis, it’s easy to see some elements of it bleed into the series. For first episodes, it’s usually with the establishment of things and how certain moments work like battles. Usually, the things that stand out with these kinds of anime are the designs and animation. With this series though, the biggest highlight is how it pokes at the downs of playing online or phone games. It’s a type of comedy that can hit or miss, but it has its moments.
Still, the general image of the episode is rather cute and animation is overall smooth. Most especially in the action and magic scenes. Also, the characters had a rather solid introduction to them.
The Bad
Standard, there’s no other way to describe an introduction to a series. From the premise to the characters and even the plot, everything is pretty much a standard set-up for an RPG type of anime. The introduction, the crisis, and even the character set-up are all rather generic. The only thing that really stands out with this series is a slight humor pokes. Other than that it can get rather repetitive in certain parts.
Conclusion
It’s cute and it has its moments, but overall, the episode presents as largely standard series with generic tropes. The introduction, the characters, just about everything about the episode screamed a typical RPG type of anime. Very little was new or interesting with the episode and the only thing that marginally redeemed itself is how it seemed to touch 4th wall problems in some scenes.
