The anime and manga industry has lost another great man. In a blog posted on Wednesday, the wife of manga artist Yoshihiro Kuroiwa announced that he has passed away last May 8. He died of a heart attack. His family held a funeral service for him and his wife wasn’t able to announce his death sooner for the reason that everything was just too sudden.
Kuroiwa became known for drawing the art of the popular manga series Kishin Doji Zenki together Kikuhide Tani as storywriter. The manga ran in the Weekly Shonen Jump from 1992 to 1996 which was then adapted into a 51-episode anime series in 1995. An original video anime (OVA) titled Kishin Doji Zenki Gaiden: Anki Kitan was released in 1997.
He also drew the spinoff manga of Macross Frontier titled Otomegami Amaterasu which was published on Home-sha’s Z manga website back last April 2017. The release of the unfinished 14th chapter as well as his last ideas is planned to be published on the website, if his family will allow this.
Rest in Peace, Yoshihiro Kuroiwa. You will forever be remembered through your works.
