GKIDS officially uploaded an English-subtitled trailer for Fireworks (Fireworks, Should We See it from the Side or the Bottom?) on Thursday. The film is slated to be screened in the US in July. Check out the video below:
It was announced on Wednesday that GKIDS will have US movie screenings for the anime film Fireworks (Fireworks, Should We See it from the Side or the Bottom) will be on July 3, 5, and 7. The said movie screening dates will be released as a Fathom Event. A separate theatrical release will also happen beginning July 4.
This is an anime film adaptation of director Shunji Iwai’s 1993 live-action drama of the same name but with an addition of modern elements. The film premiered on August 18 in Japan earning 170 million yen on its first day of screening and a total of 1.6 billion yen in the box office.
This is the first of the five GKIDS films that Fathom Events will be screening in the United States this year. Their recent collaboration was during the screening of Mary and The Witch’s Flower last January and will be screening more films during the Studio Ghibli Fest 2018
Synopsis (by GKIDS):
Producer Genki Kawamura follows up his mega-hit your name. with another tale of star-crossed teenage lovers with a sci-fi fantasy twist. Shy Norimichi and fast-talking Yusuke, are goo-goo-eyed over the same elusive classmate, Nazuna. But Nazuna, unhappy over her mother’s decision to remarry and leave their countryside town, plans to run away and has secretly chosen Norimichi to accompany her. When things don’t go as planned, Norimichi discovers that a glowing multi-color ball found in the sea has the power to reset the clock and give them a second chance to be together. But each reset adds new complications and takes them farther and farther away from the real world – until they risk losing sight of reality altogether.
