Synopsis
Mitsu is a sweet-faced girl who looks rather fluffy on the outside but holds a hidden side to her. One day she encounters the rumoured “Wild Grizzly” of the school and like many others, fled from him, but a single charm may just change things for her and the so-called delinquent.
The Good
The first thing that really makes this work stand out from the other shoujo works is the fact that it managed to slip in the slight gender switch trope rather well. Kumaguya had a rather solid introduction and the fact that the manga doesn’t fully away from him being a craftsman adds a cute factor to him as a character. The dynamic that he has with Mitsu while have a rather trope high start, gave way to some cute development. And the way that the chapter ended with the revelation of Mitsu being abnormally strong places as a nice tie in for a first impression.
The Bad
For one thing, as a shoujo work, the cliches and tropes are inevitable, but it doesn’t make it any less redundant that it goes for the whole “Misunderstood delinquent looking character” trope. A trope that at this point is rather overdone with the amount of school manga being dished out these days. While not necessarily bad, a little change of the usual school characters trope would be a bit nice. And besides, if it weren’t for the whole guy liking crafts and girl being abnormally strong, it wouldn’t be all that different from a usual shoujo work.
Conclusion
Being a rather simple shoujo work, there isn’t any high expectations to be found in terms of difference in tropes, but the way that the manga works the tropes it has is rather good. It was subtle with the whole gender role switch as said and the overall chemistry between the two leads are pretty solid so there are some points which make the work worth flipping a few pages for at least. It’s not great and there are the usual tropes, but it is cute for the most part and there isn’t anything about the series the points to an overly cliche or cringe worthy work at least.
