Synopsis
This is the story of three young girls who have formed a group named “Colors”. Their main goal is to protect their city, all the while having fun together like solving puzzles, playing games and even going to the zoo.
The Good
There’s no other way to describe this works anything but silly and cute. Really, when it comes to anime that presents cute young girls, it either turns out weird, twisted or a comedy work. With this one, it does have some comedy work to it but for the most part it was a surprisingly wholesome episode and a solid introduction to the series. It has a simple art, solid art and animation and presented the different girls in fun ways that didn’t just clump them together. Basically it’s an anime that actually has kid characters acting as kids and that in itself is adorable.
The Bad
As a rather light-hearted work that basically has the tag, “they’re kids, what can you do” attached to it, there isn’t a lot of criticism that can be made with the first episode. If there was anything to nitpick with the episode it would be that the story could have gotten a more solid flow to it, and the characters could have given a little more exploration. Another nitpick is the art, for some parts it just seems a little rushed and basically there could have been a bit more of a cleanup for certain scenes and proper details given. Other than these nitpicks the only thing that can be said negatively against the work is that with no real solid plot involving a conflict, it may not work for those who expected some sort of wackiness.
Conclusion
It’s silly, it’s cute but most of all it’s wholesome. Over the years of watching anime, whenever a seemingly cute work involving cute characters comes out, this writer can’t help but put a war tag on them. The reason for this? “Gakkougurashi”. That aside, a cute work can just be a cute work and this work just proved that. If anything, this is the perfect work to watch if you want to have a few laughs and something a little preppy as well.
