A new type of mystery series is making its way to the screen in May and its name is “Oshiri Tantei” a.k.a. “Butt Detective.” Officially revealed on Wednesday on its official website, new cast details and other features for the series have also been released.
“Oshiri Tantei” a.k.a. “Butt Detective” is originally a picture book that is under the publication of Poplar. Aimed towards early grade schoolers there are six picture books and five books on the adventures of the butt faced detective and over 1.7 million copies of the books have been printed.
It was first published in 2012 and for each book, the title began with the words ‘Fart! Fart!’, for example, ‘Fart, Fart! The Riddle of The Disappearing Lunch Box’ and ‘Fart, Fart! The Little Police Chief’s Big Problem. The main purpose for this book series was to bring kids into different kinds of mysteries by presenting the story along with different labyrinths and puzzles for the kids to enjoy.
The anime will be making it’s debut on NHK E Tele (NHK Educational TV) in May with Hiroki Shibata, the episode director behind “Dragon Ball Z” as the director for the production. Tsking the helm as the series composer for the production is Natsuko Takahashi, who is known to have worked on the shoujo series, “My Love Story!!.” Both will be working with Toei Animation on the production of the anime work.
The cast to play in the anime will be the same cast who played for the net anime that aired on May 31. Taking on the role of the bottom faced detective once more is Yuko Sanpei, who is currently playing the role of Boruto Uzumaki. With her to play as Oshiri Tantei’s assistant, a dog named Brown is Ayaka Saito, who played the role of Mitsukuni Haninozuka.
Returning for the role of the narrator and Chief Maltese is Ikkei Watanabe who previously worked as a drama actor. Takahiro Sakurai, who is known for playing the role of Reigen in “Mob Psycho 100” is returning for the role of Kaitou U a.k.a. “Mysterious Theif U.”
The story of the series follows the adventures of the detective with a bottom for a face. He is the only one of his type as the rest of the characters seem to hold animal characteristics. It is stated that he often says the phrase “I smell trouble,” before heading to solve the case.
Though his appearance may be strange the detective is one who “behaves like a perfect English gentleman” though apprehends the culprit by blowing farts into their faces.
