Announced on Monday in this year’s January issue of Square Enix’s Monthly G Fantasy magazine is the official hiatus of the “Durarara!! Re;Dollars Arc” manga. Reasons for the hiatus are due to unspecified “circumstances” and no confirmation has been made on its return.
Most recently, Square Enix shipped the fourth compiled volume of the series on September 27. In addition to this the licensed manga that was announced by Yen Press on 2015 and set to release in 2016 is now slated to release in 2018.
Originally, the “Durarara” series began as a light novel work that was written by Ryohgo Narita, with illustrations by Suzuhito Yasuda and was released in. The manga adaptation later came out in April 2009 and is still currently being serialized by shōnen manga magazine Monthly GFantasy with a total of 10 volumes so far. In April 2014, the sequel series titled “Durarara!! SH” was released.
It was in January 2010, that the anime adaptation of the series came out. Directed by Takahiro Omori and written by Noboru Takagi, the series ran for a total of 26 episodes. The second season of the anime came out in January 2015 and had a total of 36 episodes plus OVAs released before ending in March 2016.
The main story of the series begins with Mikado Ryūgamine, a young boy who longs for the exciting life of the big city. After moving to the city of Ikebukuro and meeting with his childhood friend Masaomi Kida, Mikado encounters all kinds of characters, from superhumanly strong man Shizuo Heiwajima, the information broker Izaya Orihara and even the local legend called the “Black Rider.”
For the rest of the series, the story takes on eleven different perspectives and tells of their different mindsets as they live their lives in Ikebukuro: a city with a large underbelly that is the medium for the majority of both the plot’s development and random violence throughout the series.
With the sequel series, it takes place two years after the original events of the manga and is written by Ryohgo Narita and illustrated by Suzuhito Yasuda.
