Synopsis
One day out the blue, a god appears before a class and declares that the students will become heroes of his world, giving each of them all an ability specific to them, he summons them all to his world. All except one that is, a young man by the name of Kanya Yato, as he had been sleeping at the corner of the classroom and thus was outside of the summoning circle. After much interviews and investigation, he enters into high school with a new set of skills.
The Good
The concept alone makes for a high amount of potential for the series. So many isekai stories have been dished out this year, so to have an isekai story turned on its head is actually rather refreshing. Then there is also the protagonist himself, while there isn’t much shown on his personality given that it is only the first chapter, his general portrayal works highly well for the story. The build-up of the plot is also another plus for the story so far given that it manages to maintain a semblance of mystery makes for another fun factor to continue with the series. Outside of this, the beginning also has a little twist on itself as well as a touch of comedy to it.
The Bad
One of the main problems to be seen with the chapter so far is with the female lead. So many times have we gotten either the strong tsundere or sweet but weak shy girl that it has become rather redundant at this point. And while it is nice that the reader gets to dive into the plot and have a little bit of mystery behind the character, the fact that it made use of a highly dangerous/stressful situation just to showcase his abilities is a little much. Given on how well though small the build-up of the general characters were, the whole attack on school thing seems a little out of place.
Conclusion
The plot, the build-up and the overall protagonist portrayal holds highly well for the rest of the series in terms of potential. But the way that the female lead and the whole school being in danger and the protagonist being there to help save the day seems a little much for the start of the story as well as well as pretty out of place given the general tone of the chapter. But when looking at how the chapter actually began and looking at the story as a whole, there may be consideration on how things ended up. Overall this a refreshing take on a character suddenly gaining abilities mixed in with the beginning half of an isekai story.
