It was revealed on Tuesday on the Fullmetal Alchemist live-action movie official website that Atomu Mizuishi will be voicing the Alphonse Elric. Out of all the 100 candidates who auditioned, he was able to get the role successfully. Alphonse in the film will be portrayed in full CG animation.
Mizuishi is known for his roles in the Seraph of the End musicals, Prince of Tennis 2nd season and Makai no Hana. He was already part of the cast which is needed to produce the CG effects throughout filming. Fumihiko Sori said that Ryosuke Yamada (Edward Elric) and Mizuishi worked well together. Rie Kugimiya, the original voice actor for Alphonse in the anime adaptations has also praised Mizuishi for his performance. Even the creator of the original manga Hiromu Arakawa also praised the performances of both Al and Ed.
The film’s world premiere will happen on October 25 at the Tokyo International Film Festival. Its official premiere in Japan will be on December 1 and screened in over 400 theatres (including 4DX and IMAX screenings).
The film will be directed by Fumihiko Sori and promises to fans that the movie will be closely accurate to its original source.
To quote Sori, “I want to create a style that follows the original manga as much as possible. The cast is entirely Japanese, but the cultural background is Europe. However, it’s a style that doesn’t represent a specific race or country."
Ryosuke Yamada will play the role of Edward Elric, Dean Fujioka as Roy Mustang, and Tsubasa Honda as Winry Rockbell. Other cast and crew members include the following:
Fumiyo Kohinata as General Hakuro
