Synopsis
Office worker Yuusuke was satisfied with his life of working in a company and spending his days at home playing games in his hoodie and jeans. But upon being invited to a reunion with a friend he realized that all of the males have a foot into the fashion world and he is left in the dust. While lying despondent in his room his sister Tamaki finds out his situation and makes the decision to take him into the world of fashion and teach him what it means to coordinate clothing and look good in them.
The Good
This a truly rare piece to find in both the anime/manga community. In the concept of fashion, more focus has been gone towards the female genre and barely any discussion is had on male fashion in extensiveness. Now here is not a oneshot but an actual series that is tackling the concept of male fashion and quite tastefully too without the use of modeling, idols or even designers.
The characters who are being used in this concept are also likeable as well in the fact that they are rather realistic in many parts and are relatable as well. The brother sister relationship that the two main characters have is also something to give a positive point to as it too has a realistic aspect to it while other works make things somewhat extreme, crossing the line or just plain distant.
The highlight of the series is not just the concept, characters, or even the detailed designs of the clothing, but rather the philosophies of buying and wearing clothes that were slipped into the series. One idea is the one that the main character is using and it is that wearing expensive clothing does not mean that they will look good, the important thing is knowing how to coordinate.
It is both a fascinating and very true thing. There are many positive points to be found with the series but that is what a reader should continue reading for.
The Bad
The main off point in the series lies with the protagonist himself, Yuusuke. It is understandable that entering into something completely new and different is a process and a learning curve at the same time. But in Yuusuke’s case, his learning curve would be something called of a flip flop along with certain points of his personality.
One moment he is genuinely interested in learning then his negative attitude kicks in and he needs to be helped by his sister. In the big picture there is nothing wrong with this, but in the long run of the series and the scenario happens more than once, makes Yuusuke out to be a nearly hopeless case without his sister and it doesn’t paint a very good side to him.
What would make better sense is for him to do his own research and testing out what his sister taught him rather than have others teach him things like his old school acquaintance who made an appearance to offer a different perspective in getting clothes.
Conclusion
The series is a very interesting read for those who are looking for a new story with a unique concept that doesn’t go overboard and have actual relatable characters. The art is simple but well done with the little details in clothing and applying them to the characters. The characters themselves are likeable and only have some minor issues mainly on protagonist Yuusuke’s side but other than that the series is highly worth the read
