New Teaser Released for Live-Action ‘Tokyo Ghoul’ Film

Just in case you missed it, the popular manga series Tokyo Ghoul will have its own live-action film adaptation slated to premiere in Japan this Summer! The film’s official website on Thursday released a teaser for the upcoming movie which shows and introduces some footages of the movie’s cast. You can check out the two versions of the following trailers below:

Tokyo Ghoul is a Japanese manga created by Sui Ishida and was first launched in the Weekly Young Jump from 2011 to 2014 with a total of 14 volumes. Due to the manga’s continuous success, it paved way for another manga sequel Tokyo Ghoul: re which is ongoing, and a spin-off prequel manga Tokyo Ghoul [Jack] which was published digitally from August 2013 to October 2013.

To give you a little background about the Tokyo Ghoul manga, it is a dark fantasy series in which Ghouls live in the human world like normal people except for the fact that they feed on human flesh. Kaneki Ken was excited to have a date with Rize which only ended up bad since Rize was only interested on his body and eat it. After a morally questionable rescue, Kaneki can transform himself into a half-Ghoul half-human individual. The manga follows his survival in a violent and dark world infested with Ghouls that live among us.

The live-action film will star Masataka Kubota as the main protagonist Kaneki Ken. He also played in the live-action adaptation of Death Note and in the following television series: Photo Braver 7 and Mars.

Fumika Shimizu will be playing as Toka Kirishima. Fans have expressed worry that the film project might not go well as planned due to the recent announcement of the film actress’ retirement from the entertainment industry. This is for the first time that she had cut her hair short intended for her role.

The film staff expressed that “We want to convey the ghoul and human drama and strong themes of the [original] work through the film. Those feelings will never change.”

Other cast of characters for the live-action movie includes Yuu Aoi as Rize Kamishiro, Nobuyuki Suzuki of EXILE will play as Kotaro Amon , and Yo Oizumi will be playing as Kureo Mado.

With this all-star cast, our expectations for this live-action adaptation are high. We hope this adaptation will be worth watching especially those for fans of the well-loved franchise.
