With the 12th episode of the anime “Yuri on Ice” coming up in just a day, fans already have their own expectations and aspects to look forward to in the upcoming final episode of the popular skating anime. The anime had only been received over two months ago on October but in the span of that time a fandom had grown with them calling out the well written plot, relatable characters and beautiful skating animation of the show alongside other points of interest in the show such as how real skaters have been referenced in the show as well as certain cameos have been made.
Previously it has been announced that figure skating star and four-time Grand Prix medallist Oda Nobunari would be making a cameo as himself in the 11th episode of the series as a commentator to his favourite character, Yuri Katsuki’s skate as well as the other skaters in the GRAND Prix Finals. Now a new face or in this case voice makes his cameo for the finale of the series and his name is Stephane Lambiel, a Swiss figure skater and choreographer.
Having started his training in 1995 Lambiel is recognized today as a well-known skater with a two-time win at the World Championship, a win as the silver medallist in the 2006 Olympics, a two-time win at the Grand Prix Finals and a nine-time win at the Swiss National Championships along with the crediting over the popularization of certain spin positions.
Though Lambiel has no prior experience in voice acting he has stated of both his nervousness and excitement in his time in the recording booth and working with the “Yuri!!! On Ice” staff. Like many other skaters he has also expressed his admiration for the show and of how it has something for not only figure skaters, but also figure skating fans and others who could find an interest in the sport after watching the series.
The final episode is announced to release on December 21, 2016 on TV Asahi and more details on the article, news and official site can be found in: Crunchyroll News
