Our Favorite Anime's Win Big at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2022

Posted in: Anime News

Crunchyroll is one of the best sources when it comes to anime. Crunchyroll prepares a list of anime that deserves praise and admiration every year. These anime are some of the best to follow, and you won't get disappointed tuning into them.

With that said, 2022 is just starting, but Crunchyroll already has some of the best anime in their annual Anime Awards. This article will discuss the winners and why you should give them a try. Without further ado, here are some of our favorite anime that won big at the 2022 Crunchyroll Anime Awards:

Attack on Titan Final Season Part 1

• Anime of the Year
• Best Antagonist - Eren Jaeger
• Best Opening Sequence - My War by Shinsei Kamattechan
• Best Voice Acting Performance - Japanese

Since Attack on Titan's first season aired on April 7, 2013, fans were drawn into the anime. The first episode of the entire anime is a perfect example of how you'd attract a fanbase. Fans are greeted by three youngsters: Eren Jaeger, Mikasa Ackerman, and Armin Arlert in a seemingly peaceful and mysterious world.

What seems a perfectly normal anime episode turns into absolute chaos as the Colossal Titan looms over a wall that once was believed to keep titans out. A hole is formed with a kick to the wall, and hell breaks loose. From there, fans were left horrified, amazed, and wanting more. With incredible world-building and storytelling, it's hard not to see more of the world that Eren and the others are in.

Fast forward to 2022, with four seasons in, Attack on Titan is finally on its last season. Season 4, aptly named "The Final Season," was split into two parts, with the 1st part having 16 episodes and the 2nd part having 12 episodes. The first part of the final season received critical acclaim and won the 2022 Crunchyroll Anime Awards for Anime of the Year.

Although fans are sad that AOT is ending, everyone is rejoicing because the anime will finally get a deserving conclusion from Hajime Isayama. Truly, Attack on Titan is a masterpiece that anime fans will surely revisit in the years to come.

Jujutsu Kaisen

• Best Action
• Best Girl - Nobara Kugisaki
• Best Fight Scene - Yuji Itadori and Aoi Todo vs Hanami
• Best Character Design
• Best Voice Acting Performance - German
• Best Voice Acting Performance - Portuguese

Although Jujutsu Kaisen is relatively new compared to the major winners in the 2022 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, it definitely deserves its place as one of the best. Written and illustrated by Gege Akutami, the shonen manga was picked up by Studio MAPPA. As fans got the news that the legendary studio was handling production for Jujutsu Kaisen, a lot knew that this anime would be worth the watch. And how right they were.

Since its first episode back on October 3, 2020, Jujutsu Kaisen has been on a tear. With a likable protagonist in Yuji Itadori and a colorful cast of characters such as Nobara Kugisaki(who won Best Girl awards), Megumi Fushiguro, and Satoru Gojo, fans were excited about this anime.

Studio MAPPA has been a big reason why the anime is enjoying a successful run. Yuji Itadori and Aoi Todo versus Hanami were incredibly animated and won the Best Fight Scene award. Although it's just over two minutes long, the fight scene is captivating and beautiful to watch.

Aside from the characters and good storytelling, Studio MAPPA also released Jujutsu Kaisen 0 late last year in Japan. Met with a positive response from critics and fans alike, the prequel film builds up more clamor for the anime. The second season of Jujutsu Kaisen is coming this winter 2023.

Demon Slayer's Mugen Train Arc Movie

• Best Animation
• Best Score
• Best Ending Sequence - Shirogane by LiSA
• Best Film
• Best Voice Acting Performance - French
• Best Voice Acting Performance - Spanish
• Best Voice Acting Performance - Castilian
• Best Voice Acting Performance - Russian

Demon Slayer was a hit ever since the first episode aired. Set in a fictional world during the Taisho era, the hit anime follows Tanjiro Kamado, a hardworking wood gatherer, and his sister Nezuko Kamado. After Tanjiro returns home from his usual work, he's met with carnage: A powerful demon massacres his family leaving everyone dead except for Nezuko. Changed by the demon's blood, Nezuko herself becomes a demon with extraordinary powers.

With the horrible events, Tanjiro subdues Nezuko and embarks on a journey to become a Demon Slayer and avenge his family. After a memorable first season, fans in Japan were treated to Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train. The movie served as a direct sequel to the first season. Fans outside Japan had to wait for the Mugen Train Arc for a year.

Nevertheless, the film scored big in Japan, earning more than ¥30 billion. It became both the highest-grossing anime and Japanese film of all time. Overseas, the movie grossed more than $500 million at the box office, making it the first non-Hollywood production to do so. With these many accolades, it's not hard to see why Demon Slayer's Mugen Train Arc movie brought home a total of 8 awards at the 2022 Crunchyroll Anime Awards.

Now on its second season, fans see Tanjiro Kamado, Nezuko, Zenitsu Agatsuma, Inosuke Hashibira, and Tengen Uzui infiltrating the Entertainment district. The second season has also been met with a positive response. Look for Demon Slayer to deliver more action soon.

Other Notable Anime who deservingly won awards at the 2022 Crunchyroll Anime Awards:

Best Boy - Bojji from Ranking of Kings

The ranking of Kings' animation won't wow many audiences, but the light-heartedness of the story and the likeability of Prince Bojji will. Set in a world where the number one king is considered the strongest, fans will see Bojji embark on his quest to claim his throne. There's a catch, though: Bojji is deaf-mute and naive. How will Bojji overcome the odds? Watch the anime to find out.

Best Protagonist - Odokawa from Odd Taxi

Set in an anthropomorphic world, Odokowa is a walrus who works as a taxi driver. With several twists of events around him, Odokowa is thrust into a grueling mystery story that shatters fantasy and reality. Surprisingly, many fans share a fondness for Odokowa. He's melancholic, loves radio programs, and works hard. Now, who wouldn't want that as a protagonist to root for?

Best Fantasy - That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, follows Satoru Mikami, a male 37-year-old office worker who dies from a fatal stabbing. Reincarnated as a lowly slime into a world full of magic and mystery, he befriends Veldora, the Storm Dragon.

Given powers by Veldora, Satoru is now known as Rimuru Tempest. Rimuru Tempest settles in and establishes Tempest City, a peaceful community of monsters and humans within the Great Jura Forest. The anime's second season sees Rimuru and his generals vanquish threats to the city. The second season is also noted for the overwhelming strength that Rimuru and his generals have over their opponents.

Best Comedy - Komi Can't Communicate

Komi Can't Communicate is a comedy anime that captured the hearts of many fans worldwide. Due to its funny and quirky scenes, a live-action tv drama was broadcast last September 2021. The anime follows Shouko Komi, a girl that suffers from extreme social anxiety. Due to her fears, she communicates with other people through writing.

Although Komi literally can't communicate, she is very popular for her attractive, stoic appearance in her school. Wanting to cure herself, she sets a goal of having a hundred friends before graduating from high school.

Conclusion

2022 is just starting, and we're already treated to a lot of fantastic anime. Crunchyroll has done these anime right by recognizing them in their annual "Anime Awards." With anime such as Demon Slayer, Attack on Titan, and Jujutsu Kaisen, 2022 and the years to come are looking bright for many anime fans.
