Good news for fans of Rising of the Shield Hero! The main staff of the popular anime series announced this weekend that Rising of the Shield Hero is getting a second season set for a 2021 premiere! The announcement was made by the series’ composition writer Keigo Koyanagi, character designer Masahiro Suwa and producer Junichiro Tamura during their panel at the Virtual Crunchyroll Expo event held last September 4 to 6.

A new key visual for season 2 was also revealed during the panel:

A promo video for season 2 was also revealed in the series’ official English Twitter account, which you can check out here. It was revealed last year that the series will be getting two more seasons.

The series’ official website also revealed the main staff for season 2. Masato Jinbo (Chaos;Child) will be replacing season 1’s Takao Abo as director. Keigo Koyanagi and Masahiro Suwa will be returning to the series as composition writer and character designer, respectively. Season 2 will still be animated and produced by Kinema Citrus and DR MOVIE.

One Peace Books holds the English license release for the light novel and manga adaptation of Rising of the Shield Hero. They describe the story as such:

“Naofumi Iwatani, an uncharismatic otaku who spends his days on games and manga, suddenly finds himself summoned to a parallel universe! He discovers he is one of four heroes equipped with legendary weapons and tasked with saving the world from its prophesied destruction. As the Shield Hero, the weakest of the heroes, all is not as it seems. Naofumi is soon alone, penniless, and betrayed. With no one to turn to, and nowhere to run, he is left with only his shield. Now, Naofumi must rise to become the legendary Shield Hero and save the world!”

Rising of the Shield Hero is a light novel series written by Aneko Yusagi. It originally started as a web novel but was eventually picked up by publisher Media Factory and has since released 22 volumes. The series also received a manga adaptation by Aiya Kyuu, with 16 volumes released so far.
