The game may be notoriously hard, but it wasn’t hard for the game at all to bag the biggest prize of the night, as Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice wins Game of the Year award at The Game Awards held last Thursday! Sekiro bested the other GoTY nominees Control, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Resident Evil 2, The Outer Worlds, and Death Stranding.

Besides the GoTY award, FromSoftware’s Sekiro also won the Best Action-Adventure Game award.

Other games that won in Thursday night’s live-streamed awards show are:

·         Death Stranding (Kojima Productions) – Best Game Direction, Best Score/Music

·         Devil May Cry 5 (CAPCOM) – Best Action Game

·         Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Nintendo) – Best Fighting Game

·         Luigi’s Mansion 3 (Nintendo) – Best Family Game

·         Fire Emblem: Three Houses (Intelligent Systems) – Best Strategy Game, Player’s Voice Award (BLACK EAGLES BEST HOUSE)

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice was released last March 22 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It is described in Activision’s website as such:

“Directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, and published by Activision, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is a third-person, action-adventure game with RPG elements. The single-player game puts players in the protagonist role of a hard-hearted warrior whose mission is to rescue his master, a young lord who is the descendant of an ancient bloodline, and exact revenge on his arch nemesis. Set in the re-imagined world of late 1500s Sengoku Japan; a brutal, bloody period of constant life-and-death conflict, in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice you are the “one-armed wolf,” a disgraced and disfigured warrior rescued from the brink of death.

In the game, players come face-to-face with larger than life foes; unleash an arsenal of deadly prosthetic tools and powerful ninja abilities to blend stealth, vertical traversal, and visceral head-to-head combat in a bloody confrontation.

Take revenge. Restore your honor. Kill Ingeniously.”
