The upcoming Otakon in Washington DC is adding another name to its star-studded guest lineup, as they have just announced that they will be hosting anime producer Yoshihiro Watanabe.

Watanabe is a veteran in the anime industry and has worked in anime studios Madhouse and P.A. Works. He is credited in works such as Saiyuki Reload and Samurai Champloo. He is currently working on the upcoming anime adaptation of Paru Itagaki’s manga BEASTARS, which will premiere this October and will also be streamed exclusively on Netflix. The anime will be produced by Studio Orange, who also worked on Land of the Lustrous.

Anime News Network describes the manga’s story as such:

”The manga takes place in a world of carnivores and herbivores, where there is a lot of hope, love, and anxiety. Regoshi is a wolf who is a member of Cherryton Academy’s drama club, and even though he’s a wolf, he’s very sensitive. The manga follows the adolescent life of Regoshi and many other animals.”

Other guests to Otakon include the Japanese seiyuus Makoto Furukawa, Nobunaga Shimazaki, and Manaka Iwami, who voice Hatsuharu, Yuki, and Tohru from Fruits Basket (2019). Seiyuus Kikuko Inoue (Macrophage in Cells at Work!), Sayuri Hara (Chiaki Ohgaki from Laid-Back Camp), and Toru Furuya (Tuxedo Mask in Sailor Moon) are also special guests.

Otakon will be held from July 26 to 28 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC. Previous guests that were announced include former Studio Ghibli staff member Hirokatsu Kihara, who worked on Kiki’s Delivery Service and My Neighbor Totoro. Other guests include co-founder of Studio TRIGGER Hiroyuki Imaishi who worked on Neon Genesis Evangelion, as well as former MADHOUSE president Masao Muruyama.

There will also be a special screening of the original anime film Promare by Studio Trigger and XFlag.
