It was announced on Toonami’s official Facebook page on Friday that they will be running Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin anime on Adult Swim’s Toonami block starting July 6.

The anime is based from the manga of the same name created by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko. This was also the basis for the first story of the Mobile Suit Gundam anime. Yasuhiko was created for the character design for the first Gundam anime and later is the storyboarder and chief director for Gundam: The Origin. He also confirmed last year that Gundam: The Origin will be his last anime project.

Gundam: The Origin originally debuted as a six-volume anime that was screened in Japanese theaters from 2015 to 2018. It was then recompiled into a 13-episode anime series then aired NHK-General channel on April 29 with the title Mobile Suit Gundam the Origin – Eve of the Red Comet).

Gundam: The Origin’s story is centered around the childhood and early adulthood years of Char Aznable and the The Red Comet, the skilled Zeon ace pilot. The Red Comet is the antagonist to the series and foil to Amuro Ray, the original series’ original protagonist.
