We are currently at episode 6 of the long-anticipated Fruits Basket remake and while we don’t know how many episodes the first season will have (yes folks, there are more seasons to come!), there is one sure thing about this season: the arrival of DVD/Blu-ray volumes! If you want to own a legitimate piece of Fruits Basket history or want to watch the episodes in remastered HD quality (but without subs sadly), buying the Japanese DVD/Blu-ray releases is one sure way to do that. Not to mention of course, that you will be directly supporting the franchise, to encourage the producers to create more Furuba content.
Besides owning the episodes in full HD quality, there are added features when one buys these DVD/Blu-ray releases, which could convince people to get them (these don’t come cheap BTW especially to us international fans, mainly because we’d have to use proxy shopping services). And Fruits Basket appears to not be scrimping on these added goodies.
First off, series creator Natsuki Takaya was announced to have drawn a new eight-page bonus manga, which will be bundled with the 1st Blu-ray volume release of the series! Check out a one-page preview of the bonus manga below:
According to Natsuki Takaya’s tweet, the content of the bonus manga will be a quarrel between Kyo and Yuki, something which she says she has not written for quite a long time. Furthermore, she states that the bonus manga’s story is in line with the anime’s story and timeline. More importantly, she expressed her plans to write more new short mangas for Fruits Basket. Yay!
The first of six DVD/Blu-ray volumes will be released in Japan on June 21, 2019. There are also different freebies for the 1st Blu-ray, depending from which store one will buy. Check them out below!
Blanket from SevenNet
B2-size tapestry from Toranoana
B2-size tapestry from Amazon Japan (freebie for the 6-volume Bluray box collection)
B2-size tapestry from Gamers (freebie for the 6-volume Bluray box collection)
So take your pick from all these freebies, start searching for a reliable proxy shopping service, and happy shopping!
