There are still two weeks left until the much-awaited film sequel to Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress. To tide fans over til May 10, Fuji TV’s Noitamina programming block released a new promotional video for Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress: Battle of Unato movie. Check it out below:
As mentioned earlier, the film is set for a May 10 release in Japanese cinemas. It was also announced that the movie will be broadcast in Netflix at the same time as the movie’s theatrical run. It is not clear, however, if the movie will be made available outside of Netflix Japan (I guess VPNs are in order, then? ;D). Besides Netflix, the movie will also be released on Amazon Prime Video.
Most of the TV anime’s cast and staff have returned for the film such as the two leads Tasuku Hatanaka and Sayaka Senbongi, who play the leads Ikoma and Mumei, respectively. The anime film is still produced by Wit Studio, with Tetsurou Araki returning as director. Ichiro Okouchi, most known for creating Code Geass, penned the script. Haruhiko Mikimoto is in charge of original character design, and Hiroyuki Sawano is still in charge of music. The film’s theme song, “Sakase ya Sakase”, was sung by Japanese pop music duo EGOIST.
Director Tetsurou Araki has previously confirmed that the movie will focus on the mysterious Kabaneri Mumei, who accompanied main character Ikoma in the animé series. He has also confirmed that The Battle of Unato will take place six months after the events in the TV series. In the anime’s official website, the movie is described as the “middle volume” of the story.
Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress is an original TV animé produced by Wit Studio for Fuji TV’s Noitamina anime block, which aired from April to June 2016. The story is set in the industrial revolution, where a mysterious virus turns humans into Kabane, undead creatures that can only be killed if its iron-protected heart is pierced. Main character Ikoma, an engineer who invents anti-Kabane weapons, gets infected by the virus but manages to resist it. He then becomes a Kabaneri—a half-human, half-Kabane—and together with mysterious fellow Kabaneri Mumei, he journeys to seek shelter elsewhere.
