Sound! Euphonium Movie Releases New Highlight Trailer

Posted in: Anime News

The 2nd in three planned films for Kyoto Animation’s school band anime Sound! Euphonium is already showing in Japanese theaters (it started showing on April 19). As part of continued promotions for the movie entitled Gekijōban Hibike! Euphonium: Chikai no Finale (Sound! Euphonium The Movie: Oath’s Finale), KyoAni has released a new promotional video which features highlights from the film. Check it out below!

More footage from the film was shown, such as main character Kumiko Oumae conducting for the new members. For fans who have watched the Liz and the Blue Bird, the trailer also features the first and fourth movements of the musical piece of the same title, which was practiced in the movie by leads Nozomi and Mizore.

So far, Oath’s Finale is doing pretty well in Japanese cinemas, earning 93 million yen in its first three days. The movie was ranked 5th in its opening weekend, behind Detective Conan: Fist of the Blue Sapphire, the live-action film adaptation of manga Kingdom, and Crayon Shin-chan the Movie: Honeymoon Hurricane, Lost Hiroshi.

Most of the anime’s original cast and staff returned for the film, such as the voice actors of main characters Tomoyo Kurosawa (Kumiko Oumae), Ayaka Asai (Hazuki Kato), Moe Toyota (Sapphire Kawashima), Chika Anzai (Kousaka Reina), Haruki Ishiya (Shuichi Tsukamoto), Konomi Fujimura (Natsuki Nakagawa), Yuri Yamaoka (Yuko Yoshikawa), Kenjiro Tsuda (Takuya Goto), Miyuki Kobori (Riko Nagase), Minako Kotobuki (Asuka Tanaka), and Takahiro Sakurai (Noboru Taki). Tatsuya Ishihara is still directing the series, with Jukki Hanada writing the script.

New cast members were also added, who voice the new band members of the club. These are Sora Amamiya as Kanade Hisaishi (1st year, plays the euphonium), Ayaka Nanase as Mirei Suzuki (1st year, plays the tuba), Misaki Kuno as Satsuki Suzuki (1st year, plays the tuba), Shimba Tsuchiya as Motomu Tsukinaga (1st year, plays the double bass).

Anime News Network describes the film as such:

In the film’s story, Kumiko is now a second year and one of the senior players of the euphonium section. With new underclassmen joining the concert band, Kumiko will have to learn new things in order to deal with awkward and difficult underclassmen. She and third-year trumpeter Tomoe Kabe have been chosen to lead the new underclassmen members. Among the new members to Kumiko’s bass section are euphonist Kanade Hisaishi, whose appearances are deceiving; tuba player Mirei Suzuki, who cannot adapt to her new environment; tuba player Satsuki Suzuki, who wants to get along with Mirei; and double bassist Motomu Tsukinaga, who cannot talk about himself. Between the Sunrise Festival, chair placement auditions, and the competition, a number of problems quickly begin to arise.
