The Promised Neverland may have aired its 12th and final episode last week, but there is much reason for its fans to still celebrate, as the anime has announced a season 2! No more details were revealed, except that its 2nd season is set to air in 2020. The announcement PV, which aired at the end of the 12th episode, can be viewed below:
The anime was adapted from a manga series written by Kaiu Shirai and illustrated by Posuka Demizu, which is being serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump since August 2016. An anime adaptation of the series was first announced in 2018 and aired from January to March 2019 in Fuji TV’s late-night Noitamina anime block. The 12-episode anime series was animated by CloverWorks (DARLING in the FRANXX) and directed by Mamoru Kanbe, with series composition by Toshiya Ono, character designs by Kazuaki Shimada, and music by Takahiro Obata. Just last March 28, Adult Swim announced that they will be airing the series on the Toonami block starting April 13, 2019.
The Promised Neverland tells the story of orphan girl Emma, who grew up with her 37 other siblings in a place called the Grace Field House. They never want for anything, as they are provided with the best of everything. One day, Emma and her friend Norman follow Conny who is sent away to be adopted. When they have managed to sneak out, they find Conny dead and discover the horrific truth: that they are being raised for slaughter to be eaten by demonic creatures. Faced by this threat to all their lives, Emma, Norman and their friend Ray find a way to escape from their prison and save all of their siblings as well.
