Atlus Announces Persona 5 The Royal with Trailer Featuring a New Female Character

Posted in: Anime News

The newest Persona project, which was first teased to fans as Persona 5 R last December, has been officially confirmed by Atlus via a trailer aired after the special episode Persona 5 the Animation: Stars and Ours broadcast in Japan last March 24.

The 45-second trailer (which you can check out below) first shows a shot of a rainy night in Tokyo’s Shibuya district, with huge monitors in the station square showing the logo and slogan of the Phantom Thieves. The camera pans out and we get sneak shots of a female character standing in the rain, wearing a Shujin Academy uniform and her red hair in a ponytail. A female voice asks a question in the video and the red-haired girl responds, an exchange which was translated by Gematsu as:

Female voice: What do you think of the Phantom Thieves?

Red-haired girl: I think helping people is a wonderful thing, but if I had to say, I don’t like them. I don’t think the Phantom Thieves’ methods will make the world a better place or help anyone. In the end, I feel like you can only solve that yourself.

The end of the video says that more details about Persona 5 The Royal will be announced on April 24, at the Persona Super Live concert. What we know for sure is that P5R is confirmed for the Playstation 4 only, as it is the only console listed in the website. For now, the only thing we can do is wait for the answers to our most burning questions: is she a playable character and how is she connected to the Phantom Thieves? Who is the other female voice in the trailer?
