The 39th animated film of the iconic Doraemon franchise titled Doraemon the Movie: Chronicle of the Moon Exploration (Doraemon the Movie: Chronicle of the Moon Exploration) has remained #1 in the Japanese box office for its third weekend. So far, it has earned 438 million yen from over 369,000 tickets sold over the weekend. Overall, it has sold a total of 1.76 million tickets and earned a total 2 billion yen.
Doraemon the Movie: Chronicle of the Moon Exploration premiered in Japan on March 1 and immediately sold 645,000 tickets earning 757 million yen on its first weekend alone. The franchise’s previous films Eiga Doraemon: Nobita no Takarajima and Eiga Doraemon: Nobita no Takarajima have also conquered the Japanese box office charts as well. The latest movie is directed by Shinnosuke Yakuwa, who have also directed previous Doraemon films like Doraemon the Movie: Nobita in the New Haunts of Evil – Peko and the Five Explore and Doraemon the Movie: Nobita and the Birth of Japan 2016
The film’s story is set on the moon and tells the lesson of strong friendships bonded with the “ability to believe”. The story is centered on a mysterious girl named Luna who lives on the moon. While on their moon exploration journey, Nobita and friends crossed paths with a character named Diabolo and his subordinate named Goddard.
