Bandai Namco Entertainment has just confirmed the Western release date for the Switch port of Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization. According to their official press release, the game will be released to the West on May 24, just almost a month after its April 25 release in Japan. This is the first time for any game in the Sword Art Online franchise to be released in the Nintendo Switch.
Below is the latest preview of the game.
The Switch port of Hollow Realization features Joy-Con support, and also already includes the DLC chapters “Abyss of the Shrine Maiden” and “Warriors of the Sky”.
Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization was first released for the Playstation 4, PS Vita, and Windows PC on October 2016 in Japan and on November of the same year to the Western market. The story takes place in a new Virtual Reality Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (VRMMORPG) called Sword Art: Origin, three years after the original Sword Art Online incident. The player joins Kirito and other familiar SAO characters such as Asuna, Leafa, Sinon, Lisbeth, and Silica in exploring the world of Ainground and uncovering the truth behind this new virtual realm.
Aside from Hollow Realization, another SAO game is also set to be released in Switch this year. Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet Complete Edition was already released for the Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Steam in January of this year. Its Switch version is reported to be released later this year, with no specific dates yet.
