Yoko Taro, ‘NieR: Automata’ Director to Become Virtual Youtuber This Month

The director of the hit video game NieR: Automata Yoko Taro will now become a virtual YouTuber this month. This was announced during the game’s official livestream that happened last February 20.

Yoko Taro is notable for wearing an Emil mask (based from the Nier game) whenever is invited for guest appearances. He will make his first appearance as a YouTube virtual idol on Square Enix’s virtual idol group Gem Company’s Virtual Cast VRadio show every Tuesday at 8:00pm JST on the popular Japanese video streaming site Nico Nico Douga.

Yoko Taro was not present during this said stream. However, he told Yosuke Saito (Square Enix producer) that was thinking of getting into YouTube “let’s plays” and wanted to play and stream the game Astral Train. Saito said that Yoko Taro has already considered of being on YouTube but with a use of a puppet. He then suggest to him of using a 3D model of Emil while trying out virtual Youtubing. Yoko Taro really wanted to make this happen has been practicing a lot to be on YouTube. Both of them also stressed that all this is just experimental for now.

Saito will be revealing more information about this in official social media platforms the soonest.
