The Kodomo no Jikan Manga is Removed from Project-H for Precautionary Measures

As of Tuesday, Digital Manga, Inc.’s adult manga imprint Project-H has gotten its store shut down due to being banned from its e-commerce platform Shopify.

According to a report from Project-H’s brand manager, they were informed via email that the site was banned for violating Shopify’s Acceptable Use Policy, which does not explicitly ban adult content. Apparently, pornography is listed as one of the prohibited businesses for Shopify’s payment processor, but not for its overall service. However, the latter does not seem to apply to the store as the brand manager stated that it was not using Shopify Payments.

Due to this issue, it was announced by the Kickstarter campaign for Kaworu Watashiya’s Kodomo no Jikan manga that digital copies of the manga have been removed from the eManga site, also powered by Shopify. In addition to this, the update announced one of Digital Manga’s other websites is having issues, so the removal is a “precaution to ensure eManga doesn’t run into the same predicament.” It is uncertain whether the manga will be put back up or not.

While the manga is not graphically explicit or pornographic, it is notably controversial for its sexually suggestive scenes depicting young girls. Prior to this announcement, the Kickstarter had a December 5 update announcing all digital book rewards for Kodomo no Jikan having been sent out.

It was in July 2016 that the Digital Manga’s Kickstarter campaign for an English release of “Kodomo no Jikan” reached a success.

“Kodomo no Jikan” is a comedy manga series written and illustrated by Kaworu Watashiya. It was published in May 2005 and serialized in Futabasha’s Comic High! Magazine. The series had a total of 13 volumes released before ending in April 2013. The series gained an anime adaptation in October 2007 which spanned to a second anime with four OVAs and a third original anime.

The story of the series tells of Daisuke Aoki, a 23-year-old man who has just landed his first teaching job as a grade school instructor at Futatsubashi Elementary School. When he is placed in charge of Class 3-1, one of his students, a mischievously precocious nine-year-old girl by the name of Rin Kokonoe, develops a crush on him and proclaims herself as Aoki’s girlfriend. While Daisuke initially dismisses her as harmless, he soon finds himself in shock as her pursuit grows more aggressive to the point of growing sexual even, and it seems to be connected to her home life.
