With the reveal of a new trailer for the upcoming “Chronicle of the Moon Exploration” Doraemon film, a new cast/character is introduced for the film.
They are the mysterious student to Nobita’s school and are named Luca. Voicing the news character is Junko Minagawa, a voice actress known for her roles as Yellow Diamond in “Land of the Lustrous” and Sailor Uranus in “Sailor Moon Crystal.”

“Chronicle of the Moon Exploration” is the 39th film of the franchise and is set to release on March 1. Directing the film is Shinnosuke Yakuwa; it is noted that this will be his first work directing from an original script. Taking on the script for the film is Naoki Prize-winning mystery author Midzuki Tsujimura.
Also featured in the trailer is a sample of the film’s theme “THE GIFT” performed by Dai Hirai. Other than this, a new visual Luca, Luna, and Nobita and friends as they face off against the wicked invader Diabolo and his minions were released.
The story of the film sets on the moon and takes on the Japanese folkloric belief that a rabbit resides on the moon. Featuring strong friendships bound together by the "ability to believe”, the story tells of a mysterious girl who lives on the far side of the moon named Luna. And how Diabolo and his subordinate Goddard stand in the way of Nobita and his friends on their moon exploration journey.
With the previous film, it was titled “Eiga Doraemon: Nobita no Takarajima” a.k.a. “Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Treasure Island” and released on March 3. The 38th film became known as the highest-grossing anime in the current 13-installment Doraemon film series. In 32 days, the film earned 4.44 billion yen (about US$41.5 million). As of April 8, the film has earned more than 4.88 billion yen (about US$45.58 million) and sold around 4,282,000 tickets.
