What We See so Far - "The Girl and the Geek

Posted in: Anime News

Synopsis

Go Nanhee was a single woman who had no regular job. With the aim of passing the examinations and getting a job, she takes on a cleaning gig. Through this part-time work she meets Oh Deokhoo; literally the filthiest and nerdiest man she’s ever known. Due to having unknowingly thrown away an expensive action figure during her shift, she ends up cleaning his messy apartment in order to pay him back. During her time in cleaning his apartment though, the two begin to see different sides to the other. This may be the beginning of a romance of two completely different people.

The Good

The dynamic between the character is interesting, to say the least. The way they are portrayed is rather wacky at some points but on the other hand, does well as a comedy point. When comparing between the two, Oh Deokhoo honestly comes off as the more interesting of the two. He’s the low key successful developer who on the surface seems like a bum. What’s more, the way he has a cute side to him is a plus. Still, Go Nanhee does have some interesting points to her in that she’s a determined character and knows her flaws.

The Bad

With the series being in the initial stages of development in terms of story and characters, there isn’t much to be said against the series. However, it is notable that the development between the main characters is a tad superficial. And the whole cliche going on with Oh Deokhoo being handsome if he cleaned up is pretty old, but these are pretty minor. As a whole, the series does still have potential though if it balanced out the wackiness of comedy and the who thing with Go Nanhee being assumed as the girlfriend.

Conclusion

It’s a rather typical type of romance mixed in with some wackiness. The characters may have a superficial development so far but there is potential for them and their overall personalities aren’t so bad. There are hints of cliches that are rather old but it’s pretty minor given that the series doesn’t seem even close to reaching the middle of a story arc. Overall, it’s a romance series worth checking out at least for some good laughs.
