3 Episode Impression: "Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai"

Posted in: Anime News

Synopsis

Sakuta Azusagawa is a second-year student at a high school near Enoshima who’s so far experienced a rather regular life. That is until he begins encountering several girls that are experiencing this “puberty syndrome.” This is an abnormal experience rumored on the internet to be caused by sensitivity and instability during adolescence.

The first girl he meets is a wild bunny girl in the library. She turns out to be an actress on hiatus, Mai Sakurajima, who is also his senior at the school. Sakuta soon learns that the senior seems to be invisible from the rest. Hoping to find answers to help Mai, they spend more time together, and he eventually learns of her hidden feelings…

The Good

The most prominent of positives with the introduction of the series is that it presents a good foundation towards its mystery and characters. It’s subtle but understandable and leaves room for other aspects of the syndrome to be explained. Whether it be on how it affects the main character or how the surroundings and the people are affected, the thought behind the introduction of the syndrome and the mystery it brings to the characters was more than well-done.

On the note of the characters, characters like Sakuta are majorly interesting to follow given the amount of depth that they show in the progression of the series. The way that he handles different things thrown at him is rather commendable and the fact that he is an intellectual type of character adds to his interesting points. Other than this, the characters form a cute dynamic and there’s a good depth potential to the series.

The Bad

Given that it is the introductory portion of the series, there isn’t much negative to be said against the story or characters so far, not even the art or animation. Honestly, the only “negative” that could be said by this writer is that one of the characters doesn’t appeal all that much to us, and no it is not one of the main characters. That and the series may be a little too smart for some people.

Conclusion

It’s an interesting series that has a good amount of intelligence and potential for depth. The characters are engaging in different ways and the dynamics that they form are rather cute. There is a good mystery establishment and the way it connects the characters adds more to the interest in the series. Not much else can be said about the series other than its worth checking out and it clearly gets better in future episodes.
