A General Impression on: Gaikotsu Shotenin Honda-san

Posted in: Anime News

Synopsis

One would think that life as a bookstore employee would be highly boring. That is not the case with a skeleton employee named Honda. Each day he faces all kinds of colorful customers and his job is far from boring

First Impression

It seems silly on the surface but the series shows clear care for its concept. And given the visuals, it also seems like it may be weird but instead, it gave more on the variety of expressions that the characters were able to give which presented a unique point for the series. On a personal note, the idea of a series taking on what it’s really like as a bookstore owner in Japan holds an interesting note. Still, it felt like the episode exaggerated on some moments for the sake of the comedy and it may end up as a negative in future episodes.

General Impression

The series continues to be of interest in that it presents the different jobs of a bookstore worker in interesting ways. With the way that the art style is, it helps in balancing out the wackiness the series has with the characters as they deal with all kinds of stress. On the other hand, it also feels like the series is taking a little too much focus on the flailing and stress of the characters. Given the way that the series was introduced and how it focused on certain points for comedy, it wasn’t a surprise that the series would get heavy-handed on it at one point.

The characters do have a good establishment to them though and the overall theme/concept of the series holds strong. Also, the art does help in keeping a unique tone for the series and have it light-hearted for the most part. With Honda-san, he seems like the main character who gets the whole heavy-handedness comedy-wise, but he does have a good relatability note to him.

Conclusion

It’s a fun little series that has a unique art design and an interesting enough concept to it. Presentation wise, it does well in the aspects of its concept and the development of the characters. Comedy-wise though, it could use some work given that it does go a bit heavy on the whole exaggeration points. Overall, it’s an ok series that’s good for some laughs and a touch of relatability but not much else.
