A Light Novel Recommendation: "Omae Mitai na Hiroin ga Ite Tamaruka!"

Synopsis

One day, a young girl named Tsubaki regains her memories from the time she was a 30-something office lady in her past life. Now she realizes that not only has she been reborn into the world of an otome game she once knew, her half-sister is the heroine and is also a reborn figure. However, things don’t just end there as she also remembers that she, Tsubaki, is the villainess character of the story who grew to resent the heroine and suicide waits for her at every end.

Not accepting this, she decides that she can change things by first saving her mother from suicide. And thus begins a young reincarnated girl’s journey towards protecting her mother and the main capture target character, her cousin from her half-sister’s devil-like clutches.

Thoughts on Story and Characters

Usually, stories that take on the concept of being reborn into an otome game villainess focuses more on the main character developing into an OP character or inadvertently gaining the interest of the “capture targets.” For a story to take on a family story instead of a development or romance story is a rather interesting change of pace. While the first chapter may seem to be an information overload of exposition, it does introduce a different and rather engaging family story. It’s interesting that the story takes more on the perspective of the adults and how they deal with things like the divorce and how they move forward.

As interesting as it is to have things like a backstory for the adults and romance on Tsubaki’s mother’s side rather than Tsubaki herself, it would be nice to see more on Tsubaki’s perspective and story. Because so far it feels more like her family’s story rather than her story. Sure she has her moments and most of them are rather cute with how she interacts with her family but it would be nice to see more of a development on her side rather than having her perspective of how her family is shifting the original storyline.

Still, it’s interesting that she and the “heroine” are not the only reborn characters as revealed later in the story. And the story is not that far along in chapters so there is still room for story and character development. Besides, the characters are all rather cute and their stories are rather endearing to read. It’s not often that these type of stories focus on family members after all.

Should you Read it?

For fans of the reborn into an otome game concept, this is something that completely steps out of the box and focuses on something different. While it would be nice to see more development on Tsubaki’s side of things, the way the story elaborates on the past and the development of the family members and their members more than makes up for it. Overall, it’s a great family story to check out and clearly, there’s room for development in other aspects.

Score: B+
