‘Touken Ranbu’ Franchise Gets a New Stage Play Next Year!

It was announced on the official website of Marvelous’ stage adaptations of the Touken Ranbu franchise on Thursday that a new stage play is slated to premiere in 2019. Ken’ichi Suemitsu is confirmed to be the writer and director for this upcoming stage production.

Its fifth stage play titled Touken Ranbu: Hiden Yuinome no Hototogisu ran from June 2 to July 29. The Blu-Ray release made its debut in October 31 and has topped the Oricon weekly chart. The play had a documentary series with four episodes in total with its Blu-Ray Disc release on December 19 to contain a director’s cut as well as additional footage.

Touken Ranbu is based from a popular Japanese browser game developed by Nitroplus and DMM games. The player plays the role of saniwa smithing or obtaining different toudan or “sword boys” mostly based from historic Japanese swords.
