A Live-action Film is Confirmed for Shūzō Oshimi's The Flowers of Evil Manga

“The Flowers of Evil” a.k.a. “Aku no Hana” manga is confirmed for a live-action adaptation in collaboration with NTT Plala.

Announced by Happinet, the adaptation already has staff members confirmed for the production. “The Flowers of Evil” is a suspense manga written and illustrated by Shūzō Oshimi and was released in September 2009. Serialized in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine, the series ran for a total of 11 volumes before ending in May 2014.

The story of the series tells of a bookworm named Takao and how he has fallen in love with a girl named Nanako. However, being unable to speak his feelings, he ends up stealing the gym clothes of his crush and creates a huge scandal in his school. Out of everyone, there seems to be only one person who knows his true nature. Her name is Sawa Nakamura and she intends to dig into this hidden nature by forming a contract with him.

Directing the live-action film is Noboru Iguchi, the director behind the film “The Machine Girl.” Mari Okada who worked on “The Anthem of the Heart”, will be acting as the scriptwriter of the film. The studio that will be handling the film is Phantom Film while handling its distribution and publicity is Kadokawa Daiei Studio.

Prior to the live-action film, the manga received an anime adaption produced by Zexcs. It premiered in April 2013 and ran until June 2013 with a total of 12 episodes. The series was directed by Hiroshi Nagahama and written by Aki Itami. As for the character design and music, they were done by Hidekazu Shimamura and Hideyuki Fukasawa respectively.

On another note, it has been confirmed that the film will be opening next year
