The upcoming “Egao no Daika”/“The Price of Smiles” is confirmed to have 12 episodes with a 30-min length time.

Set to release in January 2019 and air on the WOWOW, Tokyo MX, and YTV channels, the series is Tatsunoko Productions’ 55th-anniversary anime project. It will be directed by Toshimasa Suzuki, the director behind “Heroic Age.” Shinichi Inotsume, the writer behind the “Hayate the Combat Butler” series will be in charge of the series scripts.

Credited for the original character designs of the series is NOB-C. They are also credited for the original story concept with Hikaru Yuasa. Adapting NOB-C’s designs for the animation is Naoto Nakamura, an artist who has worked on the animation of the “5 Centimeters Per Second” film. Composing the music of the series is Tsubasa Itō, who majorly worked on the key animation of different anime. Another staff member listed for the series is Kazuya Tanaka as the sound director.

When Tatsunoko announced the series, they also released the story of the series. The studio described it as follows:

On a planet far from Earth, there is a kingdom full of smiling faces. Princess Yūki is 12 years old, and about to enter a sensitive age in a person’s life. Every day, she cries, laughs, and sometimes, her heart throbs with excitement. All the while, she lives merrily in the royal palace.
Filling her days with color are her loyal vassals: her tutor Reira, Izana who assists in political affairs, the leader of the chivalry Harold … and then, there is her childhood friend and aide Joshua.

“Yūki! If you have spirit and guts, you can do anything!”

“…No, not this again! Joshua, be nobler!”

Stella is 17 years old and a capable, reserved soldier. However, she is always smiling … for smiling is essential to living.

This is a story of two girls born on distant planets.

Starring in the anime are Yumiri Hanamori and Saori Hayami. Hanamori, who is recently cast in “That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime” as Shizu, will be voicing as Yuuki Soleil, the “princess of a kingdom which has lasted eons.” Her character is described as an innocent, naive, expressive girl who is often laughing, crying, or getting angry.

As for Hayami, a voice actress known for having played as Shirayuki in “Snow White with the Red Hair”, voices as the “girl who is always smiling when she deals with people” Stella Shining. She is described to have a reserved side and is an excellent soldier.

With the opening and ending themes, both have confirmed titles and performers. Performing the opening theme, “Egao no Kanata" (Beyond the Smiles) is Chiho feat. majik. Artist kimi no orphée is performing the ending theme song “Kono Sekai ni Hanataba” (A Bouquet For This World).
