A new “special edition” serialization of the “Kyou Kara Ore Wa!!” gag comedy manga is announced by the official Twitter account for the live-action adaptation of the series.
This year marks the 20th year since the last chapter was published for the series. It will be on November 24 that the new serialization will be released in the Shōnen Sunday S magazine. Other than this, it has been confirmed that the live-action series will premiere on NTV’s Nichiyō Drama time slot on October 14.
The “Kyou Kara Ore Wa!!” is created by Hiroyuki Nishimori. Initially, the series was published in Shōnen Sunday Super running monthly from 1988 through its 38th volume in 1990. By its 40th volume in 1990, the series was promoted to the weekly magazine Shōnen Sunday. The series reached a total of 38 volumes before it ended in March 1998. One thing to note with the series is it had achieved 40 million copies in print.
In December 1992, the series gained an OVA produced by Studio Pierrot. It lasted 10 episodes and ran until December 1997. The first episode was directed by Takeshi Mori, the director behind “Stratus 4.” For the rest of the episodes, “Anmitsu Hime’s” chief director Masami Anno took over as director. Yukiyoshi Ohashi, a writer of the “Pokemon” series took charge of the screenplay. As for the character designs, it was taken on by Masaya Onishi, the character designer of “Tantei Gakuen Q.”

“Kyou Kara Ore Wa!!” tells the story of two transfer students named Mitsuhashi Takashi and Itou Shinji. Having grown tired of their boring normal life and unpopularity, the make the decision to reinvent their image and become delinquents upon arriving at their new school. Initially, the two clash with Itou’s sense of justice and Mitsuhashi’s mischievous ways. In the end, however, the two become fast friends and set out on various misadventures to become the greatest delinquents in all Japan!
