Coming in February 2019 is Saga of Tanya the Evil: The Movie

A full list of the “Saga of Tanya the Evil: The Movie” a.k.a. “Gekijoban Youjo Senki” film’s main cast and the staff is confirmed along with a 2019 premiere and has a new key visual revealed.

Based on the light novel series written by Carlo Zen and illustrated by Shinobu Shinotsuki, the film is set for February 8, 2019. Directing the film is Yutaka Uemura, the director of the “Saga of Tanya the Evil” anime series. Also returning to work on the film’s screenplay is series composer Kenta Ihara. Character designer and chief animation director Yuuji Hosogoe will also be returning to work on the film.

As stated, “Saga of Tanta the Evil” began as a light novel series. Described as an “alternate history” work, it was first published in October 2013 in Enterbrain and currently has nine volumes released. Following the light novel series, a manga adaptation was launched in Kadokawa Shoten’s Comp Ace magazine from April 26, 2016, with art by Chika Tōjō. As for the anime adaptation of the series, it made its debut in January 2017 with NUT studio having produced the series.

The story of the anime tells of a young girl with blond hair and blue eyes named Tanya Degurechaff and set in June of the year CE 1923. She has entered the final curriculum of the Imperial Military Academy and as part of her service to the force, is training at the third patrol line in the northern military district, the Norden Theater. Her training was meant to be the first step toward a brilliant career as an aviation mage and things were supposed to go smoothly but things took an unexpected turn.
