A Crossover Between the Overlord, Re:Zero, Tanya, and Konosuba Franchises are Revealed for a New Isekai Quartet Anime Project

Different characters from four isekai anime come together as Kadokawa reveals a new anime project titled “Isekai Quartet.” Revealed via a website opened for the project, the four anime featured are “Overlord,” “Konosuba – God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!,” “Re: ZERO – Starting Life in Another World -,” and “Saga of Tanya the Evil.”

Set to release in spring 2019, the anime begins with a mysterious button suddenly appearing and characters who press it are taken to a new world to gather.

Directing and taking charge of the script is Minoru Ashina, the director behind “Kōkaku Kidōtai Nyumon Arise.” Minoru Takehara, an artist behind the characters of “Lord Marksman and Vanadis” will be designing the characters for the series and acting as chief animation director. Taking charge of the animation of the series is Studio Puyukai.

In the announcement of the project, it was noted that all four franchises together have more than 16 million book copies in print, and more than 500,000 combined Blu-ray Disc and DVD sales totals. As stated, all for anime fall under the isekai genre. For those who are unfamiliar with the genre, it features a character one way or another ending up from their world to another world. Or in some cases, a person from another world ends up in the “regular world.”

With “Overlord,” which was released in February 2017, it features a gamer not only turning into his game avatar but also him and his guild people ending up in another world. It was originally a light novel series and now it has recently ended its 3rd season.

“Konosuba – God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!” tells of a young man who passes away and upon ending up in a new world, forms a dysfunctional party with a goddess, a wizard, and a crusader to fight against monsters. It premiered in January 2016 and had a second season along with a side-story.

As for “Re: ZERO – Starting Life in Another World -,” it features not only a character ending up in another world but also the concept of time traveling. Most recently, an OVA has been announced for the series.

Last but not least, “Saga of Tanya the Evil” is a series that made its debut as a light novel series and an anime that premiered in January 2017. It featured a salaryman not just ending in another world after death but also ends up reborn as a young girl.
