Shonen Hollywood Anime Finale's 'Complete Edition Receives a Feature Film Award Nomination

The nominees are out for the fifth New Chitose Airport International Animation Festival and one of them is “Shōnen Hollywood: Holly Stage for You Complete Edition.”

The feature film competition will be held on November 2-5 at the New Chitose Airport Terminal in Hokkaido, Japan. Other nominees that have been listed for the competition include:

FUNAN (Belgium, Cambodia, France, Luxembourg)
On Happiness Road (Taiwan)
The Breadwinner (Ireland, Canada, Luxembourg)
This Magnificent Cake! (Belgium, France)

To qualify in the competition, the film had to be at least 30 minutes and the listed works have been chosen out of 49 eligible works from 25 countries. Judging the films are “Haoliners’” Haoling Li, animation writer Sawako Kabuki, and Miyu Productions’ Emmanuel-Alain Raynal will be judges. For the winner of the competition, the prize is 300,000 yen.

“Shōnen Hollywood: Holly Stage for You Complete Edition” is the hour-long expanded version of the final episode of the “Shōnen Hollywood – Holly Stage.” It was funded by a crowdfunding campaign that sought 15,000,000 yen (about US$133,793) for the production. “Shōnen Hollywood – Holly Stage” is the general term of the anime adaptation of the Hashiguchi’s mixed-media project “Shōnen Hollywood.” The anime had two seasons; the first was known as “Shounen Hollywood: Holly Stage for 49” while the second season was known as “Shounen Hollywood: Holly Stage for 50.”

Produced by anime studio ZEXCS, a studio noted to have produced “Cuticle Detective Inaba,” and the music label Starchild Records, both seasons ran for a total of 13 episodes and released between July to September 2014 and January to April 2015. It told a story set 15 years after the events of the novel that was part of the media franchise.

The director of the series was Toshimasa Kuroyanagi, who worked on the “(The) Great Passage” series. And written by Ikuyo Hashiguchi, the creator of “Koishigure ~Yoshitaka Yuriko to 6-tsu no Koi.” Kei Tsuchiya, a key animator of the “Fruits Basket” series acted as the character designer.
