The Ikki Tousen Western Wolves Anime is Now in Production

The “Ikki Tousen” franchise gains a new anime as the Tokyo-based anime planning/producing company Genco announces a sequel to the two-episode OVA “Ikki Tousen Extravaganza Epoch.”

Titled as “Ikki Tousen Western Wolves”, it will be having Takashi Watanabe who worked on the first anime, as its general director while Mitsutoshi Sato, the animation director of “Shokugeki no Soma: The Third Plate” will be acting as the series director. Taking charge of the series composition is Masaya Honda, a writer known to have worked on the “Naruto Shippuden” series. Returning as the character designer from “Dragon Destiny”, “Great Guardians”, and “Xtreme Xecutor” is Rin-Sin.

The cast for the OVA include:

Hakufu Sonsaku as Masumi Asano
Gentoku Ryuubi as Kei Shindo
Uncho Kan’u as Hitomi Nabatame
Ekitoku Chouhi as Minori Chihara
Himiko as Chiaki Takahashi
Takezou Shinmen as Ami Koshimizu

The cast will also include the five main cast who will be reprising their roles for the upcoming anime.

Prior to the newly announced OVA, the “Ikki Tousen” had a total of six anime works released which are as follows:

1. TV anime Ikki Tousen (J.C.STAFF/13 episodes/July-October 2003)

2. TV anime Ikki Tousen Dragon Destiny (Arms/12 episodes/February-May 2007)

3. TV anime Ikki Tousen Great Guardian (Arms/12 episodes/June August 2008)

4. TV anime Ikki Tousen XTREME XECUTOR (Arms/12 episodes/March-June 2010)

5. OVA Ikki Tousen Shugaku Toushi Keppu-roku (Arms/one episode/February 2012)

6. OVA Ikki Tousen Extravaganza Epoch (Arms/two episodes/February 2015)

Originally, “Ikki Tousen”, which is also known as “Battle Vixens” in North America, began as a manga series written and illustrated by Yuji Shiozaki. The series is loosely based on the classic Chinese novel “Romance of the Three Kingdoms”, which involved a historical part mythical tale involving feudal lords and their retainers, began in October 2000 under the serialization of the seinen manga magazine Comic Gum.

The story of the series features an all-out turf war in the Kantō region of Japan. Here, fighters known as “Toshi” and coming from seven different schools, would engage in battle for supremacy. Starring in this series is a fighter and transfer student named Hakufu Sonsaku. She has transferred to Nanyo Academy, one of the seven schools involved in the turf war. However, something darker seems to be working into her fate.
