At the Shinjuku Southern Terrace located at the western side of Shinjuku Station Southern Exit, a limited time collaboration cafe to opens on October 5 featuring “BANANA FISH.”
With a contemporary New York style, the cafe will be treating fans with a menu featuring American-style dishes and limited edition merchandise. Upon entering the cafe, customers will find themselves greeted with voice announcements by both characters chatting back and forth and an exhibition of illustrations from the series.
On the second floor, there will be a place of merchandise that fans can get their hands on. The cafe will be running from October 5 to December 2 and will be open from 11:00- 21:20. Already fans can make an advanced reservation with a fee of 650 yen (which is around 5 USD).
For those who make a reservation, they will receive an A3 poster randomly selected from 4 possible designs, all of which feature café original artwork. As for those who enter the cafe they receive one out of 7 possible film-style bookmarks featuring scenes from the anime.
“BANANA FISH” is a series that had its start as a manga written and illustrated by Akimi Yoshida. It made its debut in 1985 and was serialized by Shoujo Comic until 1994 with a total of 19 volumes. The anime adaptation of the series made its debut this season on July 5 and is currently running.
Working as the director of the series is Hiroko Utsumi with Hiroshi Seko as the writer. As for the animation production, it was MAPPA studio that took on the series.

The story of “BANANA FISH” takes focus on Ash Lynx, a beautiful but ruthless young man who’s had a less than easy life being brought up as the adopted heir and sex toy of “Papa” Dino Golzine. Now at the rebellious age of seventeen and in light of a mystery that resulted in his brother falling insane, Ash makes the decision to escape the devil hands which raised him. It is during this chaotic time that Eiji Okamura, a pure-hearted young photographer from Japan has unfortunately come to make Ash Lynx’s acquaintance.
