Synopsis
Mazuki Subaru is a recluse mystery writer who finds it difficult to deal with people; considering them as a hindrance to both his hobby and his work. One day he happens to find a stray cat and upon feeling inspiration strike, decides to take the cat home as his muse. As the man and cat enter into cohabitation though, Mazuki soon begins to find more than inspiration as a cat owner.
The Good
If you’re into slice-of-life works mixed with a good amount of comedy and it involves cats, this is the series for you. The way that the series alternates between Subaru and Haru’s perspectives is both unique and fun to read. It also helped with the development of the characters and the exploration of different story angles. What’s more, it really highlights the bond that forms between the two characters. Just everything about the characters and their development has such a nice and soft quality to it mixed with the comedy of their antics.
In terms of art, you have to commend the series for making cat character so expressive. The different expressions that the characters show adds a fun element to the series. Outside of the character development and the art details, the side characters also did well throughout the story. It’s nice to see the different characters connecting with one another.
The Bad
There is very little reason not to read this series, to be honest. It’s a simple story about a writer learning new things from owning a cat. If there was anything to nitpick with the series is that the protagonist is no new character type. The same can be said for all of the characters actually, well, except maybe Haru. The simplicity of the story doesn’t really give much room for a whole lot of flaws unless you count the slight cliche points found here and there.
Conclusion
It’s a cute and soft series that just about anyone can enjoy, especially cat lovers. The series does well in blending it’s heartfelt and comedic moments while also giving a great amount of character development. The way that the series alternates between two perspectives is a good way at looking at the story at different angles and helps in learning more on each character and their personality. Overall, it’s a simple but cute story that features a cat and a man and only had the nitpick of not having unique characters against it.
