Synopsis

In the aftermath of a nuclear war, the people fall under the full governance of a world empire and are forced into a peace with their freedom taken away. With the forced peace came the restriction against owning any weapons. However, a resistance has secretly formed in order to battle against the world empire. They battle with ancient guns left as art which are then manifested into beings know as Kijuushi, humans who are formed from the soul of the ancient weapon. Proud and magnificent, the “Absolute Royal” take part in the battling against contemporary guns in the battle known as the “Despair War.”

The Good

The introduction of plot and characters has some great introduction points to them and we get a solid feel to all the characters which is commendable given how many there are. It’s nice to see that each character is given unique details to them. In terms of plot, the episode gave a very smooth line on building the foundation of the story and enticing the viewer to know more with the way that it ended. There was some unexpected but surprisingly fitting music in the episode the overall animation was not too bad.

The Bad

One flaw point of the episodes is that there are a lot of predictable character points to be found which led to the ending to be rather expected even if the execution was interesting. Honestly, it can be argued that this is the guns and war version of “Touken Ranbu”, just minus the time traveling. Still, the originality and execution do make up for this. The only other problem other than the generic points of the series is that the shooting animation could have been done better. Really, for a series that featured the weapon, a little more detail work on the shooting scenes could have been nice.

Conclusion

Outside of the generic/predictable points that the episode gave, there’s a lot of potential for the series. The characters all have their interesting points and the story has enough originality to keep the viewer’s interest. That and the mystery that the ending gave may as well be bait to watch the next episode. Overall, it’s not a great looking series and personally would not be high on the watching list, but it does have something interesting to watch for off times.
