There are different voices one can imagine or have heard playing the character Doctor Eggman, AKA Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik, but how about the voice of Jim Carrey?

In a report on Deadline, it was stated that there are negotiations being made by Jim Carrey to play the role of Eggman in the upcoming Sonic film. Carrey a Canadian actor, comedian, impressionist, screenwriter, musician, producer and painter. He’s best known for his energetic slapstick and has been in the entertainment industry since 1980’s.

Many recognize him for his roles in many films including “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunates”, “Bruce Almighty” and “The Mask” but he has done voice acting roles before. He played the role of Horton in “Horton Hears a Who” and was Ebenezer Scrooge and all Christmas Ghosts in the 2009 animated film “A Christmas Carol.”

The Sonic film was first announced in 2014. The film is said to be a mix of live-action and CG animation and will be released in 2019. Directing the film is Jeff Fowler who will be making his directorial debut with this film. He will be working on the film based on a script by Pat Casey and Josh Miller. For the cast, it includes James Marsden and Tika Sumpter.

As many knows, Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik is the main antagonist of “Sonic the Hedgehog” series. He was designed by Naoto Ohshima who had created the character for the 1991 video game, “Sonic the Hedgehog.” The villain is described as a rotund mad scientist who plans to conquer the world in order to build his own Eggman Empire. He also has the ability to create machines and robots, including a wide variety of Badniks. With earlier games of the franchise, he served as a recurring boss, appearing in almost every level piloting one of his created vehicles.

The “Sonic the Hedgehog” made its appearance in 1991 as a creation of Sega. The game franchise features a series of speed-based platform games that stars a speedy blue hedgehog named Sonic. With the success of the game, it helped Sega become one of the leading video game companies during the 16-bit era of the early 1990s.
