Akio Ohtsuka Voices as Baki's Father in New Baki Anime

The upcoming “Baki” anime has a new cast member announced for the character Yūjirō Hanma. The news was announced at a talk show segment at an immersive MX4D screening and playing the character is voice actor Akio Ohtsuka.

The character Yūjirō, nicknamed “the strongest creature in the world,” is the father of the hero Baki. Other than this role, Ohtsuka has also played as Gwendal von Voltaire in “Kyou kara Maou”, Rider in “Fate/Zero” and most recently, he voiced as the powerful All for One in “Boku no Hero Academia.”

“Baki,” tells the story of Baki Hanma who has gone through intense training in order to surpass his father, Yujiro Hanma, the strongest fighter in the world. In his journey, he encounters five of world’s most violent and brutal death row inmates who wish to battle him. Apparently, with their unmatched strength and skill have grown to be bored with life itself and thus they wish to taste defeat by Baki’s hand.

Takayuki Sugo as Doppo Orochi, the founder of the Shinshinkai of karate, who is nicknamed the “God of War” and “Man-Eater Orochi”

Bin Shimada as Gōki Shibukawa, the master of the Shibukawa fighting style of aikidō

Rikiya Koyama as Kaiō Retsu, a grappler who attained the title “Kaiō” with Chinese martial arts

Takuya Eguchi as Kaoru Hanayama, “Japan’s top brawler” who became the second head of Hanayama group at the age of 15

Mugihito as Mitsunari Tokugawa, the 13th head of the Tokugawa conglomerate

Yoshihisa Kawahara as Katsumi Orochi, the adopted son of Karate Shinshinkai founder Doppo Orochi

Sora Amamiya as Kozue Matsumoto, Baki’s schoolmate and the daughter of Baki’s landlady

Tohru Furuya provides the narration.

Directing the series is Toshiki Hirano while acting as the series composer is Tatsuhiko Urahata. As for the character designs, it will be done by Fujio Suzuki. The anime production will be taking place at TMS Entertainment. For the opening theme, it is titled “Beastful” and will be performed by GRANRODEO. On the other side, the ending theme will be performed by Azusa Tadokoro and it is titled “Resolve.”

The series will be making its debut on Netflix this summer on June 25 inside Japan then will be released outside of Japan in fall. Along with Netflix, the series will be aired on the Tokyo MX 1, Sun TV, TV Q Kyuushuu, TV Aichi, KBS Kyoto, and Hokkaido TV channels. For Tokyo MX 1, the series will be aired on July 1.

The anime is based on the “Most Evil Death Row Convicts” arc of the manga which is the second installment in Itagaki’s overall series. Fully titled, “New Grappler Baki: In Search of Our Strongest Hero”, the series ran for 31 volumes in Weekly Shōnen Champion from 1999 to 2005.
