The show goes on for “Sound! Euphonium” as coming in the Spring season of 2019 in Japan is an original theatrical film titled, “Sound! Euphonium the Movie: Oath of the Finale”.
So far, a story along with staff and cast members have been confirmed for the film along with a new key visual. For the story, it tells of Kumiko’s second year as a high school student and a member of the band club. With the new year, she will be acting as a mentor of sorts for a new generation of “juniors” who will be joining the club.
Returning as the director is Tatsuya Ishihara. More than “Sound! Euphonium” series, Ishihara has also worked on, “Air” and “Clannad”. Other than working as a director, Ishihara has also worked on the storyboard of a variety of series including, “K-ON!”.
Also making their return for the film is voice actress Tomoyo Kurosawa who will be reprising her role as main character Kumiko Oumae. She is currently playing the role of Flash Honey in “Cutie Honey Universe” and has previously played a role in “Idol time Pripara” as Galala.
“Sound! Euphonium” first made its debut as a light novel series by Ayano Takeda in 2013. The manga adaptation later came in November 2014 and serialized on the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! Web website before ending in October 2015 with 3 volumes.
It was in April 2015 that the anime adaptation made its debut with Kyoto Animation has produced the work. The series was directed by Tatsuya Ishihara and written by Jukki Hanada, who also worked on the “Gakuen Alice” script. Running from April to July 2015, the series lasted a total of 13 episodes.
The story of the series set in Kitauji high school where the concert band club had at one time participated in national tournaments and was a champion school. However, upon the club’s adviser being changed, the club had been able to even participate in the qualifying tournament. Still, under the strict instruction of the newly adviser, the students are steadily improving and build up their strength. As they fight over who plays solos though, some students give priority to studying and quit club activities.
