A Second Look: Isekai de "Kuro no Iyashi Te" tte Yobarete Imasu

Posted in: Anime News

Synopsis

One day, 22-year-old Kanzaki Misuzu awakens to find herself in a completely different world. Not only that, upon finding out that she can open pop-ups with status and information, she has discovered that she has become some sort of RPG magic user. With her knowledge of games and more, she ventures out into a journey involving knights and monsters and discovering new things as she gains the title of “Black Healer” and what it may imply.

First Read

There are rarely any isekai stories starring a female hero without them basically come off as a sort of damsel. Nothing against isekai stories that have female protagonists on this spectrum, but Kanzaki is a nice change of pace. She presents as a hero that is usually portrayed by a male character in how she deals with her situation and her abilities and so the story makes for a refreshing read. That and the fact that she’s a healer rather than a hero adds a nice touch.

Another point to enjoy with the series is how it establishes itself with its characters and initial world building. However, while there is an interesting story lay-out, it’s overall a rather standard isekai adventure story involving an overpowered protagonist that is female instead of male.

Second Read

While the start did come off as rather generic in isekai stories, the build-up of both the characters and the story made up for it. Personally, protagonists who are more on the intellectual side or are more developed outside of the action spectrum are more appealing to read. It’s also nice that while she was shown to be powerful in the beginning, it’s not her main feature and she develops rather well in character and skill.

Story wise, there is a lot of interesting points to be found. Especially when it surprisingly touches on more darker aspects such as how Kanzaki is being targeted in certain arcs. The way that each arc involving Kanzaki being in danger begins with a cliffhanger can get repetitive though. Still, seeing how she bonds with different characters in between these arcs adds a sweet touch to the overall story flow.

Conclusion

For the most part, the story presents an interesting female protagonist who is not too overpowered and creates lovely bonds. True, there are many generic points in the story, but the darker aspects of the story and the character development makes up for it. Other than this, the mystery also adds a nice bit of spice to the story as well. The only other flaw of the story is that it could work its pacing better.
