In the first summer 2018 issue of Shueisha’s Jump Giga magazine, a one-shot manga was published by Shūichi Asō for his “The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.” a.k.a. “Saiki Kusuo no Psi Nan”.
An image of the psychic on the cover of the issue and includes the text, “Did you think it was over with that?" The one-shot is a 22-page work that will feature Kusuo Saiki without his psychic abilities.
“The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.” was first serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump in June 2012. Prior to this, the artist had been drawing one-shot versions of the story in the Weekly Shonen Jump and Jump Next! magazines in 2011. On March 5, a four-panel sequel manga was launched in Weekly Shonen Jump’s 14th issue by Asō.
It was on February 26 that the manga has reached its end in this year’s 13th issue of the magazine. Even at the end, however, the issue included a statement of how the manga’s fifth anniversary “isn’t over.”
In the Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine’s 23rd issue of 2016, an anime adaptation had been announced. The anime series of shorts made its debut on June 2016 with J.C.Staff and Egg Firm having produced the series. The director of the series is Hiroaki Sakurai, who worked on the “Maid-sama!” series. As for the writer of the series, that role was taken on by Michiko Yokote, the creator of “Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch”.
Other than an anime, the series was also adapted into a light novel titled “Saiki Kusuo no Psi-nan – Extra Story of Psychics” in May 2013. This was followed by “Saiki Kusuo no Psi-nan – Extra Story of Psychics 2” in July 2014. In 2016, a video game titled “Saiki Kusuo no Psi Nan: Shijō Psi Dai no Psi Nan!?” was released.
The story of the series tells of a high schooler named Kusuo Saiki. On the surface, Saiki seems like an ordinary student. The truth, however, is that he’s a powerful psychic with different abilities including telepathy, psychokinesis, teleportation, and more. As powerful as the male is though, all he wishes for is a quiet and normal life. This is easier than said when he has to deal with his less than ordinary classmates at P.K. Academy.
