Fans of the “Pokemon” franchise will now have a chance to learn more about creator Satoshi Tajiri as a manga book featuring the man is released in Shogakukan.

Titled as “Shogakukan-ban Gakushū Manga Special Pokémon o Tsukutta Otoko Tajiri Satoshi” a.k.a. “Shogakukan Edition Learning Manga Special, Satoshi Tajiri: The Man Who Made Pokémon”, the book tells Tajiri’s story from his upbringing to the creation of Pokémon. Included in this a look at Tajiri’s passion for insect collecting during boyhood, his encountering the Space Invaders game in the 1970s, the fellow game creators he has worked with, and other people who helped push Tajiri forward.

Other than this, the work will be including articles that provide a glimpse into the history of the game industry as well as columns from Tajiri. What’s more, the book will be having commentary provided by Nintendo Representative Director, Creative Fellow, and “Super Mario Bros.” creator Shigeru Miyamoto.

It was around 1981 that Tajiri began his career. More than the “Pokemon” franchise the man has also worked on other projects including “Mario” spin-offs and “The Legend of Zelda.”

“Pokemon” is a franchise that first began with a pair of video games for the original Game Boy that was developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo. These games were “Pokémon Red” and “Pokémon Green” and they were released in Japan in 1996. “Pokemon” sets the player in a world where there exist fictional creatures called “Pokémon”. Players take on the role of Pokemon Trainers and catch and train different Pokemon so to battle other trainers for sport.

From video games, the franchise has expanded from video games to trading card games, animated television shows and movies, comic books, and toys. With the growth of the franchise, it has become known as the second best-selling video game franchise, behind only Nintendo’s “Mario” franchise.

Most recently, the franchise has a live-action film adaptation based on “Detective Pikachu” under production. On the anime side of things, the 20th series “Pokemon: Sun and Moon” is currently running with around 76 episodes out. For this season of the franchise, it features Ash Ketchum and Pikachu as they travel to the Alola region, go to Pokémon school, participate in the island trials, and learn how to use the power of Z-moves.
