Sony to Halt Production of PS Vita Game Cards

An announcement from Sony Interactive Entertainment confirms that the production of PlayStation Vita game cards will be end for in Europe and the Americas by March 2019. Physical game card production will still continue in Japan and digital game distribution will remain available for all regions.

The PS Vita unit was released in Japan on December 17, 2011 which was then followed by numerous regions in February 2012 sold over 1.2 million units worldwide.

In the case of the PS Vita system, the company’s representative said “we plan to continue marketing activities at this time”. Sony told developers that the American and European branches “plan to end all Vita GameCard production by close of fiscal year 2018”, which is on March 31, 2019. They also requested all product code requests to be submitted by June 28, 2018 and that final purchase orders be submitted until February 15, 2019.
